First day of class AND the SAI coordinators checked the apartment while I was getting out of the shower… mhmm… fun. I did my daily routine; shower, brush my teeth, books and homework in the backpack, breakfast and out the door. I walked to school and I felt very comfortable in the city for once. I know I’ve only been here for a while but Rome is not hard to get used to despite what I thought.
I was early to class so I took some detours to check out what is around the school. The beauty of Italy is that no matter where you go, there is beauty on every corner; a beautiful church, a fountain, etc.
Once I got to the school, I read my book, Atlantis Found by Clive Cussler, and then went into my classroom. After about ten minutes, an elderly man walks in and announces “sorry to inform you but your teacher will not be attending today, here is the syllabus and she will see you next week. Goodbye.”
Wow! First day and first class? Good start.
So I had three and a half hours to fill before I had my next class so I made my way to the main campus and settled into the library. I read about Rome, other cities and countries in Europe I wanted to visit, and shot out some important emails to get things finalized with JCU and PLNU. After about 3 hours, I exchanged $$$ for Euros, and I left for Intensive Italian. Wow what an overload! She asked us to look at the paper and memorize the whole page of questions and answers then we were supposed to answer the questions we were asked by students in the class and ask them a different question! On the first day! I would like to say I’m a good student, but this was too quick! Walking back from class frustrated and overwhelmed! When I got back to the apartment, I started some laundry, responded to emails, and settled in for a little food to keep me going. Shelby and I chatted about economics, guns, and he told me about a prize elk he hunted. After our chat I decided that I was going to drop Intensive Italian and go to Standard Italian. I honestly felt so much better; more relaxed, fresh air again!
I usually write in my journal and blog in the late evening (like now) right before I go to sleep and I’m sitting here so excited that I’m here; in Rome; till Christmas! What a blessing.
These are the keys for the apartment! Awesome right?
